Recycling Programs

The Waste Authority has multiple recycling sites around the county which are free to the public and are open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

See the drop off locations page to find locations of our blue bins. At these bins we accept the following: Plastics – all numbers accepted as long as they are not contaminated by food or other unwanted substances as well as bimetal containers, aluminum cans and bottles. Paper – all paper products including office paper, newspaper, magazines, junk mail, phonebooks, text books, cereal boxes, pizza boxes and the likes as long as the paper is not contaminated by food, grease or unwanted substances. Next is glass – all colors accepted – no need to sort. We have a bin for clean plastic grocery bags. This includes plastic film - this is thin plastic that products are wrapped in. Last but not least is cardboard – this includes corrugated and brown boxes with ribbing and space between the outside papers.

Businesses may bring their recycling to our Blakeslee facility.  You must register at the desk to obtain entry into our receiving facility.  In some instances we may offer a rebate for your material.

An electronics recycling program was initiated in July 2010 due to the high demand of tv and computer recycling.  We accept all types of electronics here at our Blakeslee facility free of charge.  This includes TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other small electronics.  Call us with any questions at 570-643-6100.  We accept electronics Monday through Friday from 8-4 pm and the first Saturday of every month.  Please call for an appointment to drop off.

Regarding your household hazardous wastes, call us for information on items that are difficult to dispose of at 570-643-6100.

Our recycling program also includes many schools in our county where we work with the districts, principals and teachers in educating students about reducing waste and recycling incentives.

We also host many community events around the county.  We educate the public on the benefits of recycling and proper disposal of waste.  At these various events we collect rechargable batteries for recycling and cell phones.  Contact us if you or your organization is interested in having the Authority participate in your community event.
